All of our trainers are Health & Safety Executive Approved. Our varied client base currently includes nurseries, sports teams, clubs, pubs, building trade and restaurant chains to name a few.

Course 1

3-Day First Aid at Work

Description
It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers should provide a safe and healthy environment for their employees. If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aiders, then this course will provide you with suitable, highly trained personnel. This comprehensive four-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.
This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
Duration
A minimum of 24 hours spread over at least 4 days. Ideally, the course should be run over 4 consecutive days, but Approved First Aid Training has the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire.
Syllabus
A wide range of subjects is covered including Legalities, responsibilities and reporting, Assessment of the situation, Dealing with an unconscious casualty, Resuscitation, Heart Attacks, Choking, Poisoning, Control of bleeding, Bandaging, Fractures, Burns, Head injuries, Eye injuries, Sprains, Strains, Shock
If your organisation has a specific area of training that is not included, or you require a more in-depth session, then we can accommodate you by providing additional training in that particular subject.
Certification
Subject to assessment, all participants will be issued with a First Aid at Work certificate (and wallet card) approved by the Health and Safety Executive. Each attendee also receives a first aid manual.
This qualification is valid for 3 years which can be re-newed by attending a suitable 2-Day re-qualification course.
Numbers
A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and each participant must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above.

We are able to deliver this course on your site, subject to a pre-course assessment of your premises, reducing your costs in respect of additional time out and traveling. Alternatively we can carry out the course at our training centre at Bilston Glen.

Course 2

Two-Day First Aid at Work (Re-qualification)

Description
It is a requirement of the Health & Safety law that employers provide a safe and healthy environment to work in. If your assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need to maintain the qualification of your First Aiders, then this course will provide you with that.
This comprehensive 2-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way. In addition to this, should there have been any change to protocols during their initial qualification, then this will be updated.
This course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
Duration
A minimum of 12 hours spread over at least 2 days. Ideally, the course should be run over 2 consecutive days, but we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you so desire.

Course 3

One Day Emergency First Aid at Work

Description
Where an employer’s assessment of First Aid needs identifies that a First Aider is not necessary, the minimum requirement for an employer is to appoint a person to take charge of the First Aid arrangements. This includes looking after the equipment and facilities and calling the Emergency Services when required. Arrangements should be made for an Appointed Person to be available to undertake these duties at all times when people are at work.
In the absence of the First Aider, employers must appoint a person for this purpose. It should be remembered that Appointed Persons are not First Aiders and should not attempt to give First Aid for which they have not been trained.
This course is ideal for individuals who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and attain a recognised qualification in First Aid.
Duration
A 6-hour course consisting of theory and practical work.
Syllabus
A wide range of subjects is covered including Responsibilities and reporting, Assessment of the situation, Dealing with an unconscious casualty, Resuscitation, Heart Attacks, Choking, Control of bleeding, Fractures, Burns, Shock
In addition to the core subjects as listed above, an additional 1 hour is available to cover specific areas that are appropriate to your organisation.
Certification
Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will assess each individual ongoing throughout the course. This qualification is valid for 3 years. Each attendee also receives a first aid manual.
Numbers
A maximum of 16 students can be accommodated on this course and must be aged a minimum of 16 years or above.
Location

Course 4

Half-Day Emergency Response Course

Description
This is a short course in Basic Life Support. The aim of the course is to enable all students to deal with an unconscious casualty who is breathing, and how to deal with an unconscious casualty who is not breathing.
Duration
A 3-hour course consisting of theory and practical work.
Syllabus
A range of subjects is covered including Arriving at the scene, Casualty assessment, Top-to-toe Survey, Recovery Position, Resuscitation, Hygiene Control.
Certification
Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will assess each individual ongoing throughout the course and issue a certificate of attendance. Each attendee also receives a first aid manual.
Numbers
A maximum of 16 students can be accommodated on this course and there is no age barrier.
Location

Course 5

Two-Day Appointed Person Emergency First Aid in the Workplace (Paediatric)

Description
This course has been developed for those who are working with children and babies. It will be of particular interest to Teachers, Child Minders, Crèche Assistants, Playgroup personnel and anyone responsible for youth organisations.
It is ideal for individuals who are responsible for children and/or babies, who wish to gain knowledge of emergency procedures and attain a recognised qualification in First Aid. In addition to that of the one-day course, many other childhood conditions and illnesses are included.
Where an employer’s assessment for First Aid needs identifies that a First Aider is not necessary, the minimum requirement for an employer is to appoint a person to take charge of the First Aid arrangements. This includes looking after the equipment and facilities and calling the Emergency Services when required. Arrangements should be made for an Appointed Person to be available to undertake these duties at all times when people are at work.
Duration
A 12-hour course consisting of theory and practical work.
Syllabus

First Aid Audits

Is your organisation at risk? Designed to improve first aid processes in the work place, from this we are able to recommend best practices, this will help to save time, money and reduce impact on emergency aid.

At the time of training, we can review your current first aid equipment. We can then recommend and supply your organisation with any supplies that you may need to meet the HSE Legislation.

Our supplies are cost effective and we aim to save your company money.

Angela Macintosh

I trained as a First Aid Instructor during my maternity leave from my nursing degree in April 2008 and have since facilitated many courses across Edinburgh & the Lothians. I also assess for Marks & Spencer first aid courses. I love my role as a first aid instructor and am passionate about being involved in passing on the skills and knowledge that might save someone’s life one day.

I pride myself on training in a way that creates a relaxed and enjoyable experience that enhances the relationship of any team.
